FCARC Calendar Changes for 2008-2009
At the March 2008 E-Board meeting a new calendar was adopted on a
one-year trial basis. The calendar revision attempts to do a number
of things:
-
By having only four "formal" programs at Club meetings, we
reduce our high school meetings to six (four program meetings, annual
meeting, and the December Potluck Dinner), skipping formal programs
during the July through September vacation period and the three worst
winter weather months. It also will permit additional time to try to
line up better programs for those four program meetings in October,
November, March, and April.
-
We will continue the BYOB (that's "Buy Your Own Breakfast!") Club
Breakfasts. and have very brief reports and announcements at
the breakfasts during 11 of the months of the year.
-
The calendar leaves the breakfasts on the 3rd Saturday of the month
but changes the four "Program" club meetings (two in Fall, two in
Spring) and the other two GHS meetings to the 3rd Monday of the month,
permitting major Club activities to fall within the same weekend-three
day period (i.e. grouped on your calendar). (E-Board meetings were
reduced by several and switched to the 2d Monday of the month).
-
We have added several foxhunts and three workshop periods, all
scheduled immediately after a Club Breakfast so the same Saturday
morning can be devoted to a workshop or foxhunt and still have other
weekends free.
-
We cut the August Breakfast due to two weekends being already tied up
with race coverage that month. That doesn't preclude having an
informal breakfast for those who wish to do so on the 3rd Saturday
(might keep Bill’s Restaurant happy or maybe they could use an
August break from us?).
-
Finally, we kept all the former race coverage responsibilities,
picnic, and December Potluck in the picture.
This may help some folks' schedules and hurt others. Input was
requested and the board went with what they got. If, after seeing how
it goes this next year, we don't like it, we can always change it for
the following year.
Meanwhile, the hope is that this will maintain the social events we
all like, give us some opportunity to organize extra activities and
programs better, maintain a schedule with the Greenfield High School
facility for formal program meetings, and perhaps avoid canceling
meetings at the last minute due to severe winter weather.
