FCARC Fox Hunt (August 2, 2008)

The first FCARC foxhunt in quite a while was intended to be a gentle introduction to the sport. Dick, AC1L, our fox, promised he would be easy to find and no more than five miles from the 10 a.m. starting point at the Poet's Seat Tower As it turned out, almost all of the hunters started out in the wrong direction, and those who started in the right direction soon concluded they were wrong and turned around. The event was supposed to end at 11, and shortly after that time someone asked for some hints. All the hunters were on the west side of Greenfield, near GCC or the Country Club when Dick let out that they should have headed east instead of west.

In the end all of the hunters had to be talked in to the fox's den site, in a clearing beside Pisgah Mountain Road in Gill. When the fox said he would be within five miles of the starting point it seemed he meant that he would be no closer than five miles. The pictures below were taken as the hunters gathered for refreshments with the fox.
